Abandoned reservoir in SF's Russian Hill neighborhood

Water was piped up from a creek in Presidio. Pipeline was built in 1860's to provide water to residents on Russian Hill and in parts of North Beach and Chinatown. Reservoir has not been used for many years. In 2003 SFPUC planned to completely rebuild the reservoir because of seismic problems with the old structure. Cracks endanger the water quality, and there is soil erosion on the Hyde Street side. Obviously this hasn't happened yet.

Warning: as you can see from these pictures (and from own experience), it is very easy to be noticed and get busted, so I can't "recommend" doing this.
